In the 21st episode of the podcast, the girls celebrate a major league debut, catch up with an old friend and former podcast guest and check in on the college world series.
The first guest is Sara Krutewicz, fiancé of Padres relief pitcher Robert Stock, who made his major league debut against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. The girls were able to witness Stock’s scoreless 10th inning and watch him face the likes of Joe Panik and Gorkys Hernandez. Sara joined the girls first to talk about the whirlwind call-up – from booking flights to SF to a sleepless night before his possible appearance; she walks the girls through every emotional moment. Sara talks about how special it was to watch his debut from the front row at AT&T surrounded by his family.
Then the girls are joined by the man himself, Robert Stock who calls in from his hotel room in Dallas, TX. Stock, a 10-year baseball journeyman, talks about what it was like finally getting the big league call-up – from the moment his manager called him into his office to the second he stepped out on that major league mound. The call-up comes as no surprise, as Stock boasted a gaudy 1.93 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings out of the bullpen with the El Paso Chihuahuas, the Padres Triple-A affiliate. Stock talks about his exceptional inning and how special it was to have his family there in the front row, cheering him on. He also talks about his pitching process as well as his recovery and he discuses not wanting to shake off catcher Austin Hedges too much. Finally, he goes down the Westworld rabbit hole, sharing his thoughts from this past season ahead of the finale. The girls wish Robert all the best and promise to catch up with him down the road.
Lastly, the girls are joined by KEZI sports anchor and reporter Hayley Lewis who is calling them live from Omaha, Nebraska where she is covering the Oregon State Beavers in their quest for college World Series domination. Hayley, a former Miss Tennessee title winner and Miss America contestant describes what it has been like covering the Beavers special baseball season. She also touches on women supporting women in the sports industry, her pageant experiences and her thoughts on the new Miss America format. Hayley explains the delicate nature of covering Luke Heimlich this year and how special the Beavers bond truly is. She also gives us her insight into the championship matchup with Arkansas and how she thinks it will all shake out this week.
